Experts at the College of Liverpool have actually revealed that deep sea mistake areas can deliver much larger amounts of water from Earth’s oceans to the upper mantle compared to previously thought.

“We located that mistake zones that form in the deep oceanic trench offshore North Japan linger to depths of as much as 150 km.
